Cast/Machined parts

Cast/Machined parts

I am working with cast parts that need to be machined. We have been going
back and forth on the best way to handle cast parts (master model merge,
inheritance features, data sharing shrinkwrap, family tabled cast instance,
assemblies with the machined cuts) and wanted to get some feedback from
others that model cast parts. What are the benefits and detriments to each.

Also, is there a way to get the cast part to show up in an assembly repeat
region exploded BOM as a sub-level to the machined part? Since this is a
model and draft question I am double posting it. Sorry if you get this
twice.
