Damping coefficient (%)

In the attached assemblies, I'm trying to understand what to use for the damping coefficient.  It plays a large role in the results, but I'm not sure if it's a calculated value, and if it is, I'm not sure how to calculate it.  Any help with damping coefficents in general would be appreciated.

It is not a calculated value. It should come from a measurement via test.

I find it to cumbersome to unpack the zip.

Maybe you can just insert a few pictures.

I assume you want to use a damping coefficient in dynamic response analysis.

For a steel plate hanging on a wire (actualy not supported) the damping is very low. If you were to hit it, it will ring "forever". In that case the damping is about 0.001%.

For a normal mechanical assembly using screws and bolts and/ or spotwelds typical damping values vary between 3 and 5%.

If that's not accurate enough for you, you'll have to perform measurements.
