Retrieving Simplified Rep

Retrieving Simplified Rep

I am trying to ascertain a BOM without pulling up the assembly (traverse
the assembly structure). One way I thought of doing this was to
retrieve a simplified rep, but even that looks like it wants the
assembly in session first. Is there a way to.....

a) Directly create and open a simplified rep? I get a
ModelDescriptor error when passing a full path'd name (which means, I
assume, that the assembly must be in session).

b) Get the Assembly BOM prior to opening the full model?

I'm interested in non-interactive mode (i.e. using the retrieve with
options flag isn't desired).

Thanks, all!

Just in case anyone didn't know, the only way to crawl assembly
structure (using JLink) is to have it in session. I still don't know
about the opening a simp rep to start, though. I'm assuming it will
still only allow the prompt and then you can create the simp rep once
it's in session.
