SUMMARY: Weld callout question...

It's taken me a while to gather my responses, because I was waiting on one
more internal response before I replied to the membership.

Thanks to everyone for the insight into this situation. Interestingly, I
got about as many people on each side of the camp. Some do it the way
that we have done in the past, with separate weld callouts, and some are
doing it with one symbol callout for the entire weld.

I asked for standards that said one way or the other, and this was the
general consensus: (please don't kill me on these, I'm just the
messenger!)

ANSI/AWS D1.1 ALLOWS for the single weld callout, and according to the
people that use one, it's perfectly legal.
AWS 2.4 paragraph 3.6 points more towards the single callout per weld
change in direction Internal standards - others had "official" internal
standards that said that a weld callout was required per abrupt change in
direction (I believe is the official wording, in the standards as well).
These standards were typically based on AWS standards.

So, that's what I learned from the consensus here.

However, we have an internal manager that sits on an advisory board at a
local technical college that features welding courses. He took my example
to the instructors there, and asked them which way was right. Their
