Summary "Has anyone ran into this "components model is missing" situation?"

Pro Gurus:

Thank you all for your suggestion and help.

Below are responses that I've received along with my comments in red.

Some of the suggestion help me to resolve one component, the internal tooth
washer. However, for unknown reason the bulk item is still giving me
problem. I delete the bulk items, re-insert them, re-open the assembly and
still receiving "component model missing" error. I back up the bulk item
file into the working directory and the assembly open fine. It turns out
that there is a different version bulk item part file in the working
directory. After deleting all version of this file in the working
directory the assembly now open with no problem.

------------ 1 ---------------

I've seen this happen when nested family tables have been broken.

It is not a nested family table.

“Component model missing” usually implies that the model is in another
directory other than your working directory and it is not covered by a
search path. Bringing the component in session via memory obviously negates
this.

I verify, the search.pro file does indeed miss the path to the internal
tooth washer. Problem resolve after inserting the search path.

ive had that problem before. not sure what caused it, but it was back when
i was on wf3.0. when using “find components,” i had to open the specific
instance in order to satisfy proe, the generic wasnt good enough. now that
im on wf5.0, that doesnt happen anymore. bug?

------------ 4 ---------------

If you call up the components first, and the assy opens fine, save the
assy, erase all, and try again. I've seen this when an instance's generic
name changes... In our case it was because a nested family table was
un-nested.

This also fix the internal tooth issue. However, it doesn't fix the bulk
item issues due to a duplicate file in the working directory.

Currently I’m working to resolve duplicates in our data base (we do not
have a pdm system)
Instances have been saved as separate parts
My target is to only use instances

What you are seeing a something I use to swap out the separate part by the
instance
I move the separate part out of the search scope of pro
Retrieve the assembly ->failure (just like you now have)
Retrieve/open the instance, then retrieve the assembly that originally
contained the separate part-file no probem.

My conclusion for now :
Sounds like this is a swap between separate part-file and a instance.

If you needs to in detail check what’s happening
Read the trail file-line that contains MS35333 and M16878 and determine if
shortly after to these line
The corresponding generic of these instances is opened

Something like this :

!23-Jan-12 16:22:30 Start
d:\prosrv\lib\mounting-parts\nut\830111085<din439b>.prt.2
!23-Jan-12 16:22:30 Start d:\prosrv\lib\mounting-parts\nut\din439b.prt.2
!23-Jan-12 16:22:30 End d:\prosrv\lib\mounting-parts\nut\din439b.prt.2
!23-Jan-12 16:22:30 End
d:\prosrv\lib\mounting-parts\nut\830111085<din439b>.prt.2

Where underlined is instance and bold is generic

This will help me for future troubleshooting.

Your not using, Windchill or Intralink? If not, make sure you have

all your paths listed in your config.pro file.

------------ 7 ---------------

May be some feature relationship to the assembly?

There are no feature relationship.
One is a tabulated internal tooth washer instances and the other is a bulk
wire item. They have been assembled simply as insert and mating feature.
