parameter to drive part material?

Hello Everyone,

I know that I can assign a material, and the value PTC_MATERIAL_NAME holds the name of that material. However, I was wondering if I can reverse that and use a parameter (such as MATERIAL) with a drop down list, and have its value assign the proper material to the part.

Thanks, and have a great day!

This image might make what I'm trying to do a little more clear:

Using this drop down menu, with a restricted parameter list, I was hoping that I could use this list to assign the material instead of using the Model Properties form.

Thanks,

-Dave

Dave -

We have our most common materials pre-assignedto our start parts, thus allowing us to choose them from the drop down list as you have shown without having to go into the Model Properties. I don't know if that is exactely what you are looking for, but perhaps can get you in the right direction.

Thanks,

Josh

You could do this with weblink or jlink. Display a webpage form for the user to select from and then
weblink could change both the model material and the material parameter. Or jlink/weblink could read
the value of the material parameter and set the model material accordingly. Or you could have a
jlink parameter editor. Check out the sample jlink programs under
PRO_INSTALL_DIR/jlink/jlink_appls/jlink_param
