I believe both mean the same thing. 2X is more brief and typical than spelling it out.

Hi Art,

There is a difference. See page 138 (Fig. 5-39) of ASME Y14.5M-1994 for the explanation. This notation is only used when the datum itself has its own note next to it saying 2X INDIVIDUALLY.

Also the use of PL is dated - the symbol X is now specified.
