Colormap vs. global_appearance

Hi

can anyone tell me the difference between to two configs

pro_colormap_path and global_appearance_file ?

I found that he first one the path (of course) where Creo looks for a files named

appeatrance.dmt to lod wehn Creo starts.

Is this correct ?

So whats the other for ? global_appearance_file also leads to a dmt file.

Is this just added to the first one ?

pro_colormap_path was used to direct to the color.map for pre WF releases.

It seems to be adjusted to also look for the now current appearance.dmt file.

The global_appearance_file is used to direct to the global.dmt for WF and creo

You can define appearances for a material using the Appearance tab in the Material Definition dialog box. The names of the material appearances that are associated with a material are stored in the material definition file, that is, the file with a .mtl extension. Information about material appearances is stored in the global.dmt file.

The global.dmt file is different from the appearance.dmt file that stores the information of the appearances created using the Appearance Editor that opens when you click View Color and Appearance.

Hope this helps

Hallo Ron

YES that helped, - did I get it right:

global.dmt associates the colors with the materials and is for Creo, materials itself are stored in the .mtl files.

The appearance.dmt directed by the pro_colormap_path is to store only the colors and is for pre WF releases.

Andreas

not quite but very close.

the pro_colormap_path was used to in pre WF versions to look for the color.map file.

If you still have color.map in this path, it will use this file UNLESS you have the appearance.dmt in this folder also.

By default, the appearance.dmt files are loaded in preference to the color.map file.

color.map is used pre WF (but still viable)

appearance.dmt is current and preferred over color.map
