Degrees of freedom in Gimbal connection

How many degrees of freedom do we have in Creo Gimbal connection?

What is the difference between Gimbal and Ball connection?

Both have 3 dofs

Ball is centred using a point or vertex

Gimbal is centred by using co-ordinate systems

You cannot control the rotations of a ball

You have 3 servo controllable/measureable rotational dofs in a gimbal

The manner in which the gimbal rotational dofs are driven in a matters as 'gimbal lock' can occur.

Thank you, Charles...

I am simulating the mechanism of ackermann steering. Can I use the Gimbal connection for constraining tierod ends? Right now I have constrained both the ends of the tierod using ball connection with a cone opening angle of 60 degree(which is assumed).

Hi,

Yes you can. Though I don't think it's possible to limit the connection axes to your 60deg
