Elipse

Pro E users,

How do you create a elliptical dome? Where the base of the shape is an
ellipse.

Hi Brad,
This works in WF5 and I see no reason why it won't work for WF3:

- create a sketched curve of the base of the dome (an ellipse)
- create a sketched curve of a circle of known diameter (D) at the centre
of your ellipse
- create a variable section sweep selecting the circle as Origin and the
elliptical curve as Chain 1

- Use a sketch as shown below. In my example the diameter of my circle was
10 so the dimension '5' is the radius of the circle. It ensures the dome
meets in the middle (if you selected the elliptical curve as your origin
you would not be able to do this - you would either have an elliptical hole
in the middle or a pretty four leaf clover overlap shape. The vertical
centre line on the left goes through the point on Chain 1. The curve is a
conic with a rho value of "sqrt(2)-1" as a relation. According to the ProE
help files for conics you will see this defines it as an ellipse.

There may be an easier way to do it but I don't know how!
