Importing points from excel spread sheet

How do you import points from an Excel spreadsheet into Pro/E?
4 REPLIES 4

Michael, You need to save the excel file as Text (tab delimited). This will save a txt file. You need to rename this to a *.pts extension. This pts file can be imported in Pro/E.Exact steps are given in help. Also the excel file should just contain the point co-ordinates..You need to remove everything else. Hope this helps, Rameet

Hi Rameet,

I followed exactly the same procedure what you have mentioned in this post.

But the *.pts file is not highlighting when I am trying to import the file.

Please suggest with a detailed procedure to import the points through excel file.

Thanks in advance.

The format of the *.PTS file is a simple list of X, Y, and Z coordinates. It can be impoprted with from the Get Data > Import tab or opened with some other point feature. It is fairly straight forward if the file is valid. Make sure your OS is not hiding a hidden .txt extension. A *.pts extension filter will show up all the valid point files in the import dialog along with all the zip files.
