We are redoing our FTP server, and in doing so, we are wondering
what this group does for hardware, and structure of the folders, best
practices, etc.
Here's my list of questions: (please reply and put your answers below
the questions...thx!)
1. Do you consider your FTP capability mission critical?
2. What class of hardware do you use? (for example: Server,
workstation, PC)
3. Do you use new hardware? or legacy/retired hardware to serve FTP?
(for example, do you refresh your
FTP server box every 36/48 months? Or as needed, and use retired
hardware?
4. What is your folder structure? (for example: In/out/pub or other?)
5. Follow up question#1: If you use the common in/out/pub folder
structure, do you allow your users to create folders in the out
directory?
6. Follow up question #2: If you use a different folder structure, can
you describe it below?
7. Do you use blind naming?
8. Do your external customers use this FTP site? or do you just use it
for intra company data sharing?
9. Follow up question, do you have multiple FTP servers/sites?
10. Do you follow any best practices for FTP serving? If so, can you
share those resources?
