Pro/E allows you to display a dimension as Inspection, encircled by an oval or obround. Is there a standard that provides for this usage?
I just looked through ASME Y14.5M-1994 (our corporate standard) and found no mention of inspection at all. A web search suggests there's no standard for marking of inspection dimensions.
They seem to be commonly used, but I think a note is necessary to explain their purpose and what type of sampling (first article inspection or ongoing) is expected. They are certainly more convenient to use than a separate flag note or symbol.
