Solidworks to Pro WF 3.0 Conversion

Does anyone have any experience with what type of file works best from Solidworks to Pro? I got an IGS from a supplier but when imported to Pro, it has too many gaps to heal. Any help would be appreciated.

I have had the best results overall for solids using STEP into Pro-E.

Be aware that you need to set the overall part accuracy BEFORE doing the
import. Use absolute accuracy if possible.
Changing the accuracy of the model after import will not improve the
import 'healing'.

Drag-n-drop works to import the model into Pro-E, but check to see that
the system is using your start part template also.

PTC has a very good web demo for 'Import Data Doctor', using IGES files.

I have another question related to the previous email. I would like to add a
vector thru each DTM point normal to the surface. Besides using a hole with
a small opening, is there an easy way to do this?



My client has asked for no holes if possible, as these will be added later.
I have thought about creating an axis, but I cannot control the length of
the axis.



I would appreciate any helpful suggestions. If this feature can be patterned
(referencing the DTM PTS), that would also be helpful.

you can control the size of an axis! if you right click and edit def. the second

tab will allow you to control the size you can give it ref. or tell it a length

I found no easy (short) method of adding a vector thru a datum point to
represent a hole location, without modeling the actual hole. The purpose was
to export the file (STEP / IGES) with a curve showing the proposed hole
location.

. Why not a curve from equation with a hidden csys attached to the
point ?




The client had requested only a vector be added to the model, and they would
add the holes later. If anyone has a better solution, I would be interested
in hearing from you.

STEP between SW and Pro/E works pretty well, by far the best, I believe. Also, a lot of times I get STEP models that either Pro/e will not read at ALL, or you get mangled surface geometry. What I've found is SW has far better import/export translation and repair capabilities. A lot of times I bring files (STEP, IGES, etc.) into SW first, then export out a STEP file which I "insert-data-from file" into an empty templatepart. Often they come in perfect that way, and if not, the resulting surfaces are always MUCH better than if I tried to bring it straight into Pro/E.



And, I just figured out a good/easy way to bring in dumb imported geometry and build a fully parametric model on top of it, with the ability to re-load the file and check the geometry afterwards. Interested?
