Textures / jpegs on multiple surfaces

When I use a jpeg as a texture/decal, the image is repeated is you
select multiple surfaces. Is there a way to get this image to span the
gap between surfaces (let's assume they're tangent surfaces)?

I can "cheat" by mapping the 2 surfaces separately and moving/distorting
the image, but that's not ideal.

Thanks,

And the answer I got from a few people was: "The mapping type by default
is parametric. For your requirement you may have to change the mapping
type to any one of the following Planar, Cylindrical or spherical from
Appearance Placement Editor."
