Vertical and Horizontal Measurement

Just wondering how to turn on the old measure icon horizontal and vertical icon bars, they show but are not active.

Once you pick your two points, they will become active ONLY if you have an active workplane. Without the workplane the system doesn't have anything to tell it which direction is which.
