It's a 3-month-ish contract position, and may go longer (not sure HOW much longer) but it's great to be working again! Learning creo 3, and it's WAY better than the garbage creo perametric pro 5.0 version I was on. A lot of new changes to the GUI, this time actually for the better! Also some real enhancements.
Been here since Mon 9/26, and so far love it. Awesome people, awesome work culture/environment, seems like a great company and I've been trying to get in here for years, so, we'll see where this goes!
Welcome back
As Stephen mention - Welcome back and congrats!!
Thanks guys, it's been a particularly rough one. Currently I had to move out of my apt., put what I had left of my worldly possessions into a storage shed, and sleep on an air mattress in a friends spare room with my clothes in big Tupperware bins. I'm moving closer to work by renting month-to-month with a guy. It's $275/mo more, but it's in a nicer area, WAY closer to work and the places I love, so that'll be cool. I'll have my sportbike with me in the garage, so that's good too. It's been a rough 9 months, I tell ya! But, the good thing, is I had enough saved to pay almost all my bills the whole time, so my credit isn't shot, so, that's a plus!
Hi, yeah, definitely nice to have you back. It sounds like you have been to hell & back, hopefully all that hell is behind you now, good luck in your new role. Lets see if you still love Creo 3 in a few weeks!!! Have you tried to edit a note on a drawing yet? Creo 3 at it's best!!!
Regards
John
edit. I was censored!! I did not realize the opposite of heaven (sounds like well) was deemed a swear word.
Well, I would agree Steven and would PREFER the old pull-downs, the ribbon is a total waste of space, but, since the new kiddies on the block prefer to be spoon-fed with fancy graphics, we're stuck with it. I will say it's a TON better than the version I was on (worst version, EVAR!), but, I'll just have to deal with it. On that note, I spent the last day or so completely re-doing my mapkeys so I don't even have to deal with it!
Now, if I could just figure out the interface of the swept blend so I can do a Variable Section Sweep. It's not working unless I put 2 sections (1 too many) in there, but then the result is simply a swept blend between the 2 sections, not a VSS. I can't get the section to be driven by the second trajectory! It's kind of maddening. But, there are some other actually worthwhile enhancements. What we need now is a "solid body" cut, like SW has......
Could be worse... you could be doing SW!
The VSS & standard sweep tool got merged into one. So, pick the sweep tool and you can do a single trajectory, standard constant sweep or a VSS in the same feature and convert from one to the other (there are variable or constant buttons on the dashboard).
And congrats on the new gig.
Grats, on finding a Creo job, hopefully without Windchill.
Excellent news.
Glad to see you are enjoying Creo.
Looking forward to your ...critique
Hah! Some things I like, and make sense, one had me seriously irate....until I found it. I got thrown into the deep end had to do some complicated surfacing...and I simply could NOT select anything but features, no surfaces. Well, it turns out under the: File, Options, Selection pop-up, there wasn't ANYTHING in the "My filter" side, so, features was all I got. I was trying to copy surfaces to use to trim other surfaces, and wasn't getting squat. FINALLY found this menu. I use query select all the time anyways, so I want the ability to grab anything. If I want to manually filter my selections, I'll set that up, but to come out of the box allowing you to select nothing but features is plain retarded. And there was no "tutorial" about this. So, being a "new to creo 3 user", trying to find where they re-arranged things really pi$$ed me off.
On the plus side I TOTALLY re-did all my mapkeys, and added new ones for the useful new features, so that helps. All in all, considering it's a totally new interface for me, I think I'm doing well considering I've only had a couple days on it, with zero training and having been off the system totally for 9 months.
I do't have anything in the "My filter' area either and I have no trouble selecting things. I wonder if the new "Smart" filter (new in Creo, I think) is tripping you up. You can change it in the lower right corner of the screen:
The smart filter will only highlight features at first. Once you select a feature and move your mouse it'll highlight entities of that feature (edges, surfaces, etc.) Or you can take it of of smart and put it on something else.
Hmmm, mine doesn't have "Smart" in it......maybe it's a dumb filter and that's why it didn't work?
Of note, I had to make that change both at the part, and at the assy level individually, it didn't save. Annoying......
I'm on creo 3, maybe you're on creo 2 Doug?
If you have preselection highlighting turned off, smart isn't available.
Smart filter on occasion is not very smart. Lower right hand corner where Doug indicated above.
I went from Pro|E to 3 months WF4 to Creo 1/wf5. Same program with all the puzzle pieces thrown on the floor... I mean icons.
Hmmm, I had to make the changes I outlined above, and save a "creo_parametric_customization.ui" file, which I load every session now. Looks like I;ll have to do it for every window, but at least I know how to do it now. Hoping there is a way to make it automatic, but haven't had the time to find it if it exists.
And sometimes, ALL of Pro/E isn't very "smart"! (...or the monkey here at the controls, for that matter!)
Creo 3.0 M020
Hmmm, for some reason I don't "Get Smart". (...ok, so, I loved that old TV show...)
Besides, I don't trust some code jockey the write the software smart enough to actually know what I want, but then I do things differently than most, I prefer to do things manually.
The creo_parametric_customization.ui file should save automatically in the %appdata%\Roaming\PTC\ProENGINEER\Wildfire\.wf\.Settings folder and so the settings you make to the UI on user level should be stored there.
If that is not the case and the creo_parametric_customization.ui is missing from that folder then simply save your own creo_parametric_customization.ui, rename it as creo_parametric_admin_customization.ui and put it into the <creo_install_dir>\Creo 2.0\Common Files\<datecode>\text folder.
Thanks, I'll look for all that!
It seems to be saving to a config directory I set up where I manually load my config.pro from.
I absolutely HATE that with all these stupid new revisions that they totally change the loadpoints of everything every version. Well, I guess the code jockeys have to do SOMETHING to justify their exorbitant salaries.....
the load points, if you let the "code jockeys" get their way, does change but for some of those peeps that "get smart", one can beat them at their own game!
you can define your own load point upon install, key is when you put the path in, you MUST hit enter. if you don't, it will revert back to default.
I like to think that the jockeys are keeping the stupid safe from themselves.
Much as I'd like to play with the system, I'm just a contractor here, someone else at our remote site set it up, I don't know what is where anymore since they changed everything, and so I don't want to tinker with their system....too much.....
yeah...too much... that's the ticket
nothing that a quick local config.pro file deletion won't cure!
CONGRATULATIONS! It is nice to hear this kind of news!
Hey I'm so glad you finally got some work. That's a long time to be out! I hope the work goes longer than 3 months. Is it in the same area? PM me if you want. I am still here!
