bolt connections and intervening geometry

Hello all,

My collegue just asked me if Mechanica could do a calculation where
three components are clamped by a bolt. He had problems doing that. I
told him I wouldn't know why not. But after checking the documentation
(Wildfire 4), it turns out it cannot be done. Mechanica does not handle
any "intervening geometry", not even if it is from the same 2 parts.

Can anyone explain to me why this is? As long as there is some sort of
friction between the parts, I would think that calculating the bolt
connection should not be too much of a problem?

And is this still the case in newer versions of Mechani/Crea (or
whatever it's called)?

Best regards,
Patrick Asselman
