pro engineer model to 3ds max

Hello all, I have received pro engineer files from a client that I need to import into 3ds max, can someone point me into the right direction on how to achieve this? I know npower has a translator but there has to be a lesser expensive way? Are there services for this kind of work? Greetings

I usually export STL files from Pro/E, with a high triangle count for a smooth mesh. Then import into 3ds Max, then use a smooth modifier in MAX on all parts. Imported parts will lie on their backs. Group them together, then rotate 90 degrees upright. Dont know if there is a better way

thanks for your reply, actualy there is a better way but more expensive, I don't know how many models you have to translate in your job, if it is a lot thatn the plugin pays itself off: http://www.npowersoftware.com/translators/ptProE.htm In my situation it is gonna be rare to import pro engineer models into max so I'm still looking into alternatives, I am gonna investigate what you sugest tnx!

Fyi I now know there is also okino: http://www.okino.com/conv/order/order.htm?0#basicpricinginfo a lot cheaper than npower pro E solution

On the subject of going from Pro/E to an animation system. I'm trying to find the best route to go from Pro/E to Cinema 4D. I know that Wavefront .OBJ work well, but leave much to be desired with the final mesh. Does anyone know whether it's possible to export a model format which would preserve NURBS data? Or at least a better mesh format than the triangle polygons which are created by the .OBJ??? Thanks.

not sure if this is cheaper, but Deep Exploration works really well. It opens Native CAD files, IGES, STEP, virtually everything. http://www.righthemisphere.com/products/dexp/ Does a great job of translating, makes small files, and any animations done in Max work in DE and vise-versa...
