I would definitely NOT want the user to have any quick link or prominent indication that an update is available. We spend months testing a particular build for compatibility with graphics hardware, PDMLink, Office etc. before pushing it out to the user. Also the enormous size of the download could shut down a company if several users download it at once. Most of our users don't even have the permisions to download PTC software so teasing them with a link to something they can't have is not very nice.
