We currently have a library of thousands of components being used used for the EMN/EMP IDF standard beautifully. We are investigating the new IDX ECAD/MCAD collaboration. In order for it to work well, Creo requires a new parameter of ECAD_PART_TYPE to be in each component specifying whether it is an electrical or mechanical part. Why? Why can't this be done by just using the already existing ECAD_TYPE field in the ECAD_HINT.map file? We don't specify the ECAD_NAME and ECAD_ALT_NAME in the model, why the type? It would take 1 minute to replace all in notepad and everything would be great! Also, can we please have an option that would change the default behavior of a component that does NOT have this parameter from MECHANICAL to ELECTRICAL? The ECAD tool Xpedition behaves differently based on whether we specify mechanical or electrical and 99.99% of our components are electrical, yet the IDX files say they are mechanical because the parameter wasn't set.
