Allow Intelligent Fastener Extension (IFX) to assemble Nut only

Allow Intelligent Fastener Extension (IFX) to assemble Nut only

Hello,

In Intelligent Fastener Extension, in some cases users need to assembles nuts only without screws.
This is the case for example for welted nuts of norm "DIN 929" (please see Screenshot).

Can you please allow to assemble nuts only so these case are covered by IFX too?

Thanks in advance

Sometimes you only want to assemble nut(s) and/or ring(s), without a screw/bolt (e.g. on threaded rods or threaded studs). Now this is only possible with IFX by a workaround (placing them with a bolt and then remove the bolt afterwards).

Nearly the same idea was already posted.

Possibility to add only nut(s) and/or ring(s) in I... - PTC Community

Sounds like an good idea.

At the moment you simply can assemble only the nut as kind of a screw.

Here are the steps to do this:

1. Add a new catalog for welded nuts

2. Create all nuts upfront. Do not create it on the fly

3. Copy your existing *.dat file for your nuts and change it to SCREWTYP 99

4. Add your new copied *.dat file to the new catalog for welded nuts.

Now you should be able to assemble the nut as a screw.

If you need more information or assistance, please give me feedback.

Hello,

thanks for your feedback Oliver. i vote for your idea.
thanks for the customization idea, i already use Something similar for the "2nd nut" need, i declare them as custom washers.
Our users asked for this because they have the case of 1 screw with 2 nuts (and in a basic IFX its not possible)

have a great day!

Hi, please send me your catalog and *.dat file together with one nut, then I will have a look at it.

hi. i found the problem. i needed to add the STRING  and  LG  parameters to the text file. the LG doesnt do annyting for the nut but the system needs it to act like it is a bolt.

mabby you can help me with a different problem i have with the nuts.

i added some smaller sizes like m3 and m4. but when i add a new bolt (starts as m6) and add the nu i want, then its added. but if i go back to the bolt size and put that to m3. the nut dissapers and i dont have the option to chose it.

im sure there is something somewhere that makes the system think that there is no nut from that size of that type. but it does nog get that information from the .dat file the same way as it does for the bolts.

do you have anny idea where to look, or what to try

Hi,

you have to make sure that the DN value and the P value is correct for your nut.

The current P value is shown in the dialog beside the screw option menu.

If you have a M3 screw with a pitch of 0.5 and your nut has another pitch value, then it cannot be combined.

If this doesn't helps, you can send me your *.dat file - then I can validate the problem.

aahhh yes. the P value wasn't correct.

i definetly wouldn't have found out about that without your help. thank you

do you happen to know how to get an mbd combined view directly on a drawing. without having to re add the dimentions?

Hi,

I think you have to predefine your combined stated in your 3D Model.

Show all required dimensions and setup your view/orientation.

Then you can add this combined state directly to your drawing as a new view.

Select the combined state you want to add.

NOTE: Once added to the drawing, the dimensions do not update in your drawing view if you change it in the 3D model.

But I'm not an expert for this.

Maybe you can contact a PTC-expert regarding this.
