Also, you can create that geometry, just not as a revolve. The variable sections weep can do so. Take a look at this thread at MCADCentral. I post some instructions and a sample file toward the bottom.
That said, a simpler, more direct means of doing this would be good.
Doug, Thanks for reminding me to vote for my own idea. The issue with all current workarounds is that you need to have a flat sketch in most cases. Unfortunately this is not always possible and also very labor consuming (imaging complex shape intersected off axis in 3d). You can sometimes make approximations with boundary blends through 3d curves patterned several times around an axis of resolution or along the path. But it is not as nice and straight forward as in Catia OOTB feature. And much more fragile if your will start making any modifications to the original curve.
Take a look at the thread I linked It does not require the 3D curve to be flattened before revolving. Probably more complex than Catia, but pretty straightforward.
