Allow flexible parts and assemblies to be replaced by another part or assembly

Allow flexible parts and assemblies to be replaced by another part or assembly

Please add ability to Creo Parametric to allow flexible parts and assemblies to be replaced by another part or assembly with out removing flexibility.

Thanks,

Don Anderson

I don't think that is possible since the flexibility of a component is carried by the assembly file. Replacing the component would break the relations that drive the flexibility of the original component. How would CREO know which new parameter gets the flexibility information applied to it in the replace operation.

Maybe the values of flexibility could be retained and then the user could 'remap' them to the new component features, much like reconstraining the position of a replaced component

More comments needed to grasp the full functionality and use cases.

Not voting yet, but you should vote up your own idea.

In my case I would want to transfer the flexibility to the new replacing the old component.
We should be able to do this thru the edit references table dialog box that is used for transferring component placement references.

I do not believe we are currently allowed to vote on our own items or at least it would not allow me to vote on it.

Thanks,

Example case
I have an assembly where I have made the fasteners flexible to reduce the diameter to remove interference so the fasteners will bond correctly for a Structural FEA Simulation in Creo Simulate.  I now want to replace the fasteners with a different kind of fastener and run a new simulation where the new fastener is a standalone part and not part of a family table.

Thanks,

Don Anderson
