Allow patterned Geom Points to persist as a pattern after External Copy Geom

Allow patterned Geom Points to persist as a pattern after External Copy Geom

We pattern Geometry Points in our skeleton models and share them via External Copy Geoms to downstream models. We use this to share interfaces like hole patterns between multiple models. The Geometry Points will show up in the External Copy Geom, but the pattern they are in does not. We then have to recreate each pattern in each receiving model which seems like a waste of time and features. Allowing the pattern to persist to through the External Copy Geom would avoid this problem and faciliate more top down design

I agree, the ability to pass patterns through copy & publish geometries is a needed enhancement.  There is, however, a way to accomplish it, though it is cumbersome.

If you create a dedicated copy geom that copies only the pattern leader, you can reference pattern the copy geom.  Then, tie the first of any features that need to be patterned to the leader copy geom and reference pattern those.

Now if any points are added to the master pattern, the copy geom pattern will update and the resulting features will as well.

Using this method, any change to the source pattern will automatically be propagated to the target part based on the "Pattern by Reference". The source part is always loaded in session and is required for the pattern regeneration. This is not a robust method especially for cases where the copy geometry/pattern needs to remain independent/frozen.
