Allow spaces and periods in the Name field when creating a part, assembly or annotation

Allow spaces and periods in the Name field when creating a part, assembly or annotation

Request: Allow spaces and periods in the Name field when creating a part, assembly or annotation

Background:

When creating a part, HP R&D uses

* the "Name" field for a description of the part.

* the "Model Name" field for the HP part number

HP R&D users would like to be able to enter "Screw M2.5 X 6mm long" into the Name field to improve the readability of the part field and allow us to cut and paste 40 character descriptions from SAP into this field without modication. Currently, we modify this field to Screw_M2p5_X_6mm_long

Not very legible is it? Now imagine you have an assembly tree with 1600 unique parts, this is where it becomes taxing to read through.

Currently spaces are not allowed in the Name field and period while allowed are confused with instances (i.e. screw.1, screw.2, screw.3)

Aspirational Request: If a part named screw is used in an assembly 3 times, instead of seeing screw, screw.1 and screw.2 in the Structure Browser, just show screw 3 times.

I understand this may be extremely difficult, but we need a formal response since this has been escalated to HP's CIO.
