Neither of the above functions have ever worked (over 20 years now!) when defining simplified reps and zones because they are based on each component's "bounding box" and that bounding box currently includes any copied geometry, construction features, distant (from the solids) coordinate systems, etc. So, the right rear tire of a car assembly ACTUALLY fits in a "bounding box" of perhaps 26x26x10 inches (tire diameter by tire width). HOWEVER, if, as is often the case, it has a floating coordinate system representing the origin of the car (let's say the middle of the front axle) then Creo assigns a bounding box of ~10feet x ~5feet x 26inches because that includes this floating coordinate system!
If I then define a simplified rep to just show me the front axle area. ALL components (from front bumper to rear bumper) that have a "car origin" coordinate system display.
This entire mess could be entirely fixed (at great advantage to drawing, and retrievals that currently cannot use size and location selection criteria) if PTC would provide a component-level option (like accuracy) that allows users to tell the software whether or not the bounding box should include ALL geometry... or just solid geometry.
