Automatically replace spaces by underscores when renaming a feature in the model tree

When renaming a feature from the model tree in Creo Parametric spaces are not allowed whereas while renaming it in the feature's properties the space is automatically replaced by an underscore.

Idea is to automatically replace spaces by underscores also when renaming a feature in the model tree to make it more consistent.

This should be for dimension names as well with the caveate that it includes "-" ("-" is fine for feaure names but not dimension names for some reason)

Hello,

Why replace spaces by underscores and not by non-breaking space (I hope translation is great, in french "espace insécable")?

Creo supports in model tree feature name containing non-breaking space (ALT + 0160).

Sincerely,

FG

I agree with the non-breaking space (ALT +0160) providing there are no issues with these names and family tables or other features.  I had no idea the functionality worked like this.  +1 to you fgermain for adding something new to my Creo toolbox.

Currently, Creo Parametric does not support file and feature names greater than 31 characters (Unite supports up to 75 characters), white spaces (non-breakable spaces), special characters and mixed cases.

This limitation also impacts areas within Creo; such as dialogs, relations, family tables, model tree, etc.

PTC is aware of these limitation and is currently researching efforts to remove the naming restrictions in a future release.

With this enhancement it would be possible to rename your feature in the model tree and include spaces.

Also, speaking of renaming features, there should also be added an option to reset the original feature name, or system default one. Same for dimensions.

Hi,

this discussion is nearly six years old, the comment from PTC 3 years.

Is there a plan available when the naming of features in model tree will be extended?
