Change Dimension name and add relations with a dimension double click.

Change Dimension name and add relations with a dimension double click.

Add the ability to change a dimension name or add a relation directly upon double clicking a dimension.

To change the name:

Double click the dimension to activate dimension edit. To assign a name directly prefix any name with &. For example d1 can be changed to LENGTH by typing &LENGTH

To add relations:

I believe this has also been covered here http://communities.ptc.com/ideas/1018

I agree with the implementation of typing = preceding simple relation input. By typing = can also allow for the selection of other dimensions for use in the relation. In the same way you can do this within cells in most spreadsheet applications.

This will greatly speed up the creation of model intent and lead to reduced design costs. Another benefit would be the tendency to use relations more due to their ease of use, creating more robust models throughout the Creo community.

Renaming a dimension is already pretty simple.  Click to select, right click, properties.

Adding relations to a dimension is also very simple.  Granted, you can't just select other dimensions, you need to know their name, but still, pretty straight forward.

Just to be sure, I fired up Creo 3 and tried it there.  Still works.

Hi Tom

Thank you for your message.

This is the way I currently change dimension names and add relations.

I feel the renaming of dimensions and addition of relations could be stremlined into the direct editing of any given dimension.

Allowing more than one features dimensions to be displayed at any one time, then allowing the direct selection of those dimensions for inclusion in the relation input.

I understand more complicated relations will have to be added in the traditional way but there is nothing stopping simple relations being entered directly.

Thank you once again for taking the time to read and reply to my idea.

Heres to hoping. 😉

Regards,

Miles
