It is possible to move an custom symbol horizontally in a drawing. It is just necessary to select the handle (see "1." in file "example1.png") and move it e.g. to the right (see file example1.png).
In 3D (.prt/.asm) it is not possible.
With "move" command in Context menu you can move the whole symbol, but the length of the auxiliary line will not be changed.
