Can you not do this already? When you edit an existing simplified rep you are able to save it under a new name by right clicking on it and selecting save. You then have the option of saving over the existing rep or typing a new name to create a new rep.
How many steps did you take to do that? I want to use the fewest clicks as possible. If from a 1000 part assembly I have a 100 part simp rep, now I want 5 parts from the 100 that are already on my screen. Why not just select the 5 parts RMB new rep?
Now I understand. Sorry I thought from your post you didn't know of a way to do what you were asking so I was just informing you that it is possible but yes it's not the most convenient way of doing it.
