Create subfolders in workspace

Create subfolders in workspace

Creo's workspace (with Windchill) is missing one helpfull feature, the ability to create subfolders.

E.G. if you have multiple big assemblies in your workspace, you can have thousands of single parts mixed in the same workspace.

If you need to find single parts then, it is very time consuming and confusing to scroll down the list.

But if you could create subfolders, you could deal assemblies in separate folders and it is easier to manage order in workspace. Just like working in Creo offline mode and saving files to computers hdd.

Please, rather than just marking a negative point, leave a few words feedback, why do you think this is a bad idea. I appreciate all comments and ideas, if you know better ways to handle large workspaces. In this idea, you are still free to use the current (folderless) way, you won't lose anything.

The concept is valid, but the management of moving the files would be a headache. With the search in workspace tool, do you really need to isolate certain parts?

I would hope the reason for a large workspace is that you are working on a top-level assembly. If you have multiple project files in one workspace, that is easily rectified with additional workspaces.

Although I agree that scrolling through a large workspace is time consuming, I think trying to find a single part that may be in one of a bunch of large sub-workspaces would be even more time consuming and a lot more confusing.

I recommend using the search filter, it eliminates the time to find a specific part. The example below is a "small" 400 part workspace but only shows one part since I used the workspace search filter. Takes no real time to search.  No asterisk needed, but can be used if you want to add wildcards to your search which is especially helpful when you get lots of gray hair and can't remember part names!!!
