Custom resource location for "Fitting Category Icons"

Custom resource location for "Fitting Category Icons"

By using the Fitting Category Map File it's possible to use custom icons for for fitting categories.

But according to the help document Creating Fitting Category Icons and PTC document CS160786 these custom icons must be placed in the directory <Creo installation path>/text/resource.

There is no option or possibility to change this behaviour!

This is a big disadvantage: If a new datecode is going to be installed, you always have to keep in mind, that you mustn't forget to copy the icons into the resource directory of the new installation too - manually.

Now to the idea ...

PTC, please add a new configuration option, that can be used to configure a custom path for the Fitting Category Icons!

While you are waiting for PTC to evaluate and implement this, you could start creo with a batch file, which would copy the required files from some other location to the Creo installation directory before launching Creo. You could use robocopy or xcopy (both are included in Windows) to only copy files when they are updated or do not exist in the target folder. The batch file can also be setup so that it recognizes the date code version you are using so you don't need to modify the batch file after each update.

Dear Mr. Jari,

Do you have any help documents to create useful batch files.

Thanks.

Hi Jayanta,

I have gathered my Creo startup script knowledge mostly from these presentations:

http://communities.ptc.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/3205-5-45122/CUST134_Creo_Creo_Admin_101_Hai...

https://www.ptcusercommunity.com/servlet/JiveServlet/download/3883-21-54294/CUST110_Creo_Admin_101_H...

They have a lot great tips on how to configure Creo installation and startup scripts.

No problem.

FYI for anyone who is interested - this is no longer a requirement.

I did a bit of testing around this, and (at least using Creo 3 M110) you can actually place the images pretty much anywhere! 🙂
