To gain traction on this idea, I think you will really need to elaborate on what the purpose is.

If you are still in the sketch mode, you can only save the sketch as a section file (*.sec file).

Once you complete a sketch, either as a curve, sketch, or extrude, you can export it as a DXF file.

In my personal experience, I can't imagine sketching something just far enough but NOT finishing and saving the file for future reference if needed.

For a sketched curve, I believe it is 1 (ONE) OK click and then you can export the DXF file

Hello Stephen, thanks for your remark but:

"complete a sketch, either as a curve, sketch, or extrude, you can export it as a DXF file" but if you think about export DXF in 3D model you can forget: the result is faceted like a STL export...

The only workaround is to create a drawing, hide all but the sketch curve: not simple...

I absolutely agree with your request.

The reference to the customer support article and your additional description is extremely valuable to defining the enhancement request and what is missing from the software.

I don't think you can edit the original post to add the additional information but the comment should suffice to help define what you are requesting.

I think that PTC basically ignored DXF for 3D objects in the past since the interchange format was basically defined as a "drawing exchange format".
