Datum Target circle and rectangle to adjust based on view scale in a drawing

Datum Target circle and rectangle to adjust based on view scale in a drawing

If a user creates a datum target area as a circle or square in a drawing, it does not adjust the size of the circle/rectangle area to match the scale of the drawing or view. Support says that this is the current functionality as these are symbols, which can't adjust the size based on scale. To me, this seems like an obvious oversight that should be addressed.

How many times do you need to adjust the size of the datum target to match the view?

There is a diminishing return on investment to implement a desired feature that gets minimal usage.

I would much rather have PTC spend development dollars on something that is used by 90%= of the users.

Ben, PTC has spent a lot of money in the last few versions of Creo completely redoing annotations and GD&T. Unless you know something I don't, you can't adjust the datum target size without changing the value. Then the value will be incorrect, but the size will look fine. Datum Targets are integral to many ASME Y14 standards, which most mechanical engineers should be using. What version are you on? I am on Creo 5.0.5.0.

I have the same issue where the target pad area does not scale to the drawing.  (Creo4, M080)

I had a buddy try it at his site and it works (Creo4 M100), the pad area scaled to the drawing scale, while the balloon remained constant.

So this leads me to believe it's some config or .dtl option.

Can I buy a clue as to which one is buggering up the works if anyone knows?

I'm still going to look into it but it's not a high priority.

Thanks Ron! I appreciate it. Let me know if you need something from me?

😁  an answer?  Preferably a correct one!  😁

You seem to be doing a great job researching this... Thanks for your effort!

So here is what I found out.  This may only apply to me and my set up though, but give it a whirl.

While in the drawing, I can place a datum target and change the target area to circular.

The size will NOT follow the view scale.  it will place it only at 1:1  scale so if your view is 1:1, you're golden otherwise you're screwed.

However, I placed the datum target in the model and changed the target area to circular.

I went to the drawing and in the selected view, I showed model annotations and it was available and followed the view scale.

It can be edited in the drawing to add appropriate target names, ie X1, X2, X3, Y1, and so on or even change the target area size.

Hopefully this helps.

Ron,

Thank you so much for the continuing effort to try to solve this! Our investigations also showed it needs to be done in the model. I was really hoping there was a dtl option that we can use. Oh well! 😓
