Direct Insert of Parameters/Dimensions into Notes

Direct Insert of Parameters/Dimensions into Notes

1. Describe your environment: What is your industry? What is your role in your organization? Describe your stakeholders.
Engineering Services

Owner / Engineer

Clients and suppliers

2. What version of Creo Parametric are you currently running?
7.0.6

3. Describe the problem you are trying to solve. Please include detailed documentation such as screenshots, images or video.
I would like to be able to directly insert parameters and dimensions into notes, similar to how easily they can be inserted into relations.

While in relations you can click on features/parts and dimensions for that feature show.  When you click on them, they go directly into relations.  Relations also has the parameter search feature.  Notes has nothing like this.  I have to manually go and find the feature and or part that has the information I need.  Then I have to find the feature/part ID to type in.  This is very time consuming and many times is done incorrectly because the IDs are so long.  Usually I have to go to relations, click on the features/parts to get what I want, cut it from relations and paste it into a note, but this doesn't work all the time.  Why can't there be a direct insertion into a note?

4. What is the use case for your organization?
reduce time to create notes and errors when creating

5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization?
simplify all note making, reduce errors

With dimensions it cannot be done, or so I'm told, if the dimension is used on the drawing and you want to use the dimension parameter in a note as the dimension parameter can only be used once in a drawing.

Can you give an example of what type of parametric relation you are looking for between parameters and notes?

I think it will take a drastic redesign of the way Creo handles notes to accomplish this. That would not be a bad thing as the notes, BOM and revision tables on drawings is in drastic need of redesign anyway.

One thing I do as far as dimensions go is if I'm going to be using them in a note or relations I rename them to something understandable. I cannot and will not remember that "d3247" is the diameter of a counterbore, but it's easy to remember if it's "diaCbore". I do this for me, yes, but also for future me or some other unfortunate who needs to delve into what is going on with a model. As far as being able to click on them and have them pop into the notes like they do in relations, that would really be nice. Particularly when the called out parameter/dimension needs to have the part/assembly session ID (like "diaCbore:22"). Getting those session IDs can be no fun, particularly with drawings.

You can use a dimension parameter as many times as you like in as many notes as you want.

Below is an example.  The part number will automatically change as I swamp out parts.

Yes, parameters can be reused. Dimensions cannot.

Hello @MYR_Industries,
Let me acknowledge the idea while the discussion here is ongoing.

I definitely can see a value in having an easier way to find the correct parameter ID that I need to type in my note callouts.

This is an item that is already listed in my backlog and we are considering it for a future release

Thanks,

Is there a setting to allow a dimension parameter to be used in multiple locations?

I'm finding that I have the same issue stated by @BenLoosli when I add a dimension parameter to a note or table... as soon as I attempt to use the dimension parameter in a note, the original dimension disappears.

A possible work around, to keep it parametric, would be to create a relation in the part or assembly equal to the original dimension and call the created parameter for the note.

Create the note in the model, then it can be in multiple places.
