Today I learned that gear ratios are essentially single precision (6 digits of precision)
This is wholly insufficient for nearly all friction driven ratios including CVD and planetary, or even belt drives.
Mechanism requires double precision accuracy for reliable analysis!
ref: Internally, a ration of 1.6666666666 becomes 1.66667 and 123456789012 the stored value is 1.23457e+011
I may be using the terminology wrong, but you get my drift.
PTC: Please reference case number 11653626
everyone: if something needs clarification in this idea, please post a comment.
EDIT: PTC is looking into increasing the precision to more significant digits. The SPR is 2202259.
