It is important during construction to have the possibility to convert a hole that has been created with the drilling tool into a thread or vice versa. It is often not clear at the beginning of construction which type of drilling is needed at the end.
Deleting and re-creating is very time-consuming and complicated, because it may already have been referenced to this design element.
