Enable use of editing functions without first selecting geometry

Enable use of editing functions without first selecting geometry

In part mode, the majority of the editing functions (model tab -> editing group) are not available unless you have already selected the relevant geometry beforehand. This should not be necessary and can waste time in some cases. A better approach would be that selecting these functions automatically modifies the selection filter to corresponding acceptable geometry.

For example, to use the extend function I currently need to first select a quilt's edge and then I can click on the function. But my goal was to select all tangent edges using a rule-based selection in the extend function, so I need to go reselect the edge in the function anyway. If I could start with the function, I would save the first selection of the edge. It may not appear much, but it can stack up!

Isn't this already implemented in Creo 8? What version are you currently running?

It was true as of Creo 7 last year. I have not tried Creo 8 yet.

I'm using also Creo 7, haven't Creo 8 installed yet, but I think it's already implemented in Creo 8.

Status changed to: Delivered

It was delivered with Creo 8.0 and included:

  • A/O workflow support for features in “Editing Group” including Project, Trim, Offset, Thicken, Merge, Intersect, Solidify

  • Ability to switch between feature “Type” during initial feature creation (for many of the situations where the object type of the selected geometry drove what feature-flavor to invoke)
