Extrude upto offset from a surface

I know it can be done many ways however a direct option when creating extrusion will be very helpful. "Extrude upto offset from a surface"

For example, when we create a plate which should have terminated before 10 mm from any surface. I need create two features. One extrusion upto that surface another cut 10 mm from that surface. One option "Extrude upto offset from a surface" will be useful and logical I guess.

I have attached an image where I have used upto surface option. However I need to put an plate before the selected surface. So I need to again cut this extrusion by 10 mm. I f I could hav an option offset from the selected surface then I could select the surface and put the offset value of 10 mm so that this extrude feature will terminate 10 mm before the selected surface.

I am a former SolidWorks user and this has bugged me for ages.  My work around is creating a plane (can be done before or during the extrude command) and extrude to the plane.  Essentially this is what SolidWorks does in the background.  Please let me know if you need more of an explanation.

Also former/part time SolidWorks user and LOVE there offest from surface...too bad CREO doesn't have it.
