Store search results ( e.g. All curves with parameter diameter==6...) in a feature which can be used in the definition of another feature.
At this time :
Sketch a curve, pattern it 50 times. To project them on a surface you need to select 50 sketchs in the model tree.
If you modify the pattern to 40 ==> projection fail
If you modify the pattern to 60 ==> projection contains only 50 sketchs
With The New Feature :
Sketch a curve, pattern it 50 times.
Insert the feature (search all features child of the 1st sketch) [result : 50 sketchs]
Project them to surfaces
If you modify the pattern to 40 result of search feature : 40 sketchs ==> No fail
If you modify the pattern to 60 result of search feature : 60 sketchs ==> Right number of projected curves
Have you tried a reference patter in this case?
Alternately, group the curve and the project and pattern the group.
This does require that all the projects hit the same individual surface or creating a quilt of surfaces to project on or some of the projects will fail. This is true regardless, however.
Of course, this isn't the only application of your idea, but there are a variety of analysis features that can be created to capture dimensional information of geometry.
