Fix a flat cable's length

Fix a flat cable's length

We are trying to create a flat cable with a fixed length. Apparently we can't! How is this not part of basic functionality?

@olivierlp , I believe some of these responses (and even questions) should not necessarily be public. In addition, writing this out for each idea is repetitive and might continue to alienate people who would want to suggest an idea.

1. Describe your environment: What is your industry? What is your role in your organization? Describe your stakeholders.

We do integrated systems for large organizations, businesses, homes, etc. I am the cad & business admin, cad manager, trainer, tools developer..etc.
2. What product & version are you currently running?

Creo 7.0.6.0
3. Describe the problem you are trying to solve. Please include detailed documentation such as screenshots, images or video.

See above
4. What is the use case for your organization?

Basic Cabling with a flat ribbon. Very common with PCB products. Almost all of our products use PCBs.
5. What business value would your suggestion represent for your organization?

Right now the cabling module doesn't work well for basic flat cables.  I opened 5 tickets with support today and 2 ideas (those with articles). The articles seem to say that the tool 'is what it is'. In the below picture, you cannot do this with the cabling module. I spent 5 hours today playing around with it. However, I did it in 3 minutes using a sweep.

I couldn't get an accurate diameter, routing preview, extension and bending. There were mysterious twists being added, changes to the geometry every time I went into the feature.... the list goes on and on.  Which means, we can't use the tool. If we can't use the tool, then we can't train the users on the module. Then we need to explain to our leadership why we can't use it. Then we need to explain to them we are paying for these products and modules if they are are giving us issues (ECAD, DEX, Cabling, Windchill integration, etc...). I would prefer to have the tool be useable. As I said, I don't think some of these responses need to be public. This is the sanitized version ;).

I agree with @jwagh that we should not be required to answer those questions publicly and each and every time we try to submit an idea. I understand that you might want to avoid spam, and have fewer idea suggestions that give developers time to look into those fewer suggestions, instead of spending too much time reading too much. But to try to conciliate PTC's interests and Creo users interests, I suggest that it should be better for each user of the foruns to give those answers once in the users'profile, and that are only viewed by PTC personel, instead of answering the same questions again and again, and have private details all over in a semi-public forum. Having to answer those quiestions repetively again and again will disencourage users to give feedback, and I speak for mysfelf, and unless that's what PTC wants, I think it might give the wrong message for PTC clients.
