Flashing Beacon Highlight Option

Flashing Beacon Highlight Option

We constantly struggle with trying to find features on our model via the model tree. All too often the features (holes, cuts, etc) are very small compared to the part or assembly size... so even though it is "being highlighted" somewhere on our screen... there is no practical way to find it.

When working with the model tree, would love to see a right-mouse button option called something like "beacon highlight" or "small geometry highlight" may be clearer. When selected the system would generate a repeating sequence of expanding circles/curves start with just large enough to circle the requested geometry in the current view and then expanding outwards across the screen like ripples in water when a stone is thrown in.

this way, even if the requested geometry is currently "outside the edge of the users monitor" the would see what side of the monitor the ripples are coming from.

There is an interesting option called enable_selection_glow yes that changes the highlight to a neon type effect.

You might try that on to see if it improves visualization.

Look at this thread Re: how to turn on neon effects for selected feature or dimension lines for some more settings that may also improve this effect.

Wow- just tried it. It turns out that, while MUCH more evident if I happen to be zoomed in a bit in the right general area... it is nearly no different from the traditional highlight when my entire part is visible (using "refit")... the neon affect is not at all apparent at that zoom.

Thanks though. Still does make it MUCH easier to fish around and find small features... but it does not eliminate the need to fish around... which for large assemblies is a horrible graphics performance challenge.

Cheers.

Glad I could help.
