STEP files should gradually be improved to try to convey common mechanisms that most CAD packages could translate between themselves, so that when exporting a STEP file with mechanisms defined, the final recipients of the file could eventually be able to use the mechanisms simulations according to the degree of freedom available.
Also, it would facilitate when importing neutral file formats of an assembly, if we could read automatically the constraints and limits available.
It's a long term goal, since the format is not PTC proprietary, but this goal should be achieved the sooner the possible.
