Hole series assembly feature

Hole series assembly feature

I think it would be handy to be able to with one feature at the assembly level be able to create a series of holes in stacked parts.  In solidworks there is a similar feature where you can select the parts in a stack and select the hole type wether it is a counter sink, clearance, or tapped.  This makes it easy to create different holes in multiple parts at once and also propagate the features to the part level as well.

You may want to vote on your own idea....

Maybe you had something different in mind but you can add holes, extruded cuts, revolves in assembly. During the assembly feature creation, by default, the hole is not shown in the part but there is an option that you can choose to have it shown at the part level.

If you meant something different, you may want to clarify your idea.

I have used this tool to create holes in the assembly and have them propagate and not propagate to the part.  What I am looking for is a little more complex.  I want to be able to create in one go a countersink hole in the top part of a stack, a clearance hole in the middle part/s, and a tapped hole in the bottom part of a stack. Yesterday the way I had to do it was to edit each part in context of the assembly and add the different hole types one at a time.

Ahh, I understand. The functionality may already be available but in an addition paid license.

That's the first I've seen of IFX, it looks pretty slick.  Looks like exactly what the OP is looking for, although I'm sure he would like it built into the foundation license.

What wasn't clear was if it's creating independent features in the model or are they tied to IFX and only editable in IFX.  I suspect the latter, which makes those hole features tied to the assy as well as tied to having a seat of IFX available.  That's probably OK, since the point of IFX is to tie all of those things together so hole sizes, hole locations and the fasteners are all tied together.

That is cool stuff. I dont think we have that extension here.  I will check into it.

It definitely makes assembly references to the parts. Our CAD support guy has done a demo or used it a little in a testing environment.

I suspect your normal fastener library would also have to be updated to work with IFX, so setup may be an issue, although I'm not sure about this.

It does seem to have a LOT of potential but also possibly a LOT of reference issues quiet likely.

You can create the holes in the parts without any kind of extrenal reference. Just set the option USE_EXTERNAL_REFERENCES to NO.

The position of the holes is then calculated in the parts. If the position of your screw change, you have to update the position of the holes using an extra command in IFX.
