Hot keys - only single keys, really?

Hot keys - only single keys, really?

Yet another obvious head-scrather that makes no sense.  Right now you can only add hotkeys for functions that are single lower-case letters, with the exceptions of function keys.  Is there a reason at all that we cannot use a combination of modifier and letter keys, including upper case?  Once again, you can do this in other CAD systems, but are really limited with single hotkeys in ProE.

Key Sequence entered during mapkey definition can contain several characters.

For example:

dpl ... display datum planes

dpo ... display datum planes

Combination dp is forbidden if dpl and dpo combinations are used.

Hey Martin - I was actually aware of that, and thought those make even less sense than single key operation, typin a "word" in sequence to get a macro to work, which is why I didn't bring it up.  What they need to do is what other systems have done for a long time - allow simple modifier(s) + key combination.  Works like a charm.

"Single key operation" is what you are requesting, but your example requires pressing two keys "modifier + key combination".    Sounds like added complexity to me.

I have a mapkey called "ss" for save simplified rep.  It takes a second to move my finger to the s key and then hitting it again is in the hundredths of a second.

WIth my manufacturing cap on, having mapkeys specific to capital letters is not poka-yoked.  How many times am I going to hit the s key when it should have been an S?  I wouldn't want to invoke this failure mode into the process.

Another alternative is to create a mapkey and associate an icon to it, than add the icon to the ribbon.  The icons themselves are customizable also.
