MBD – diameter dimension

MBD – diameter dimension

In Creo Parametric, to design a cylinder 2 options are avaible:

  • Extrude a circle
  • Revolve a rectangle

In first case, diameter dimension is obtained in sketch by double clicks on the circle (a simple click gives radius dimension)

In second case, diameter dimension is obtained in sketch by 3 clicks (line-axis-line)

For this 2 cases, in associated drawing this 2 kinds of dimensions can be showed on any view we want (front, top, right,…)

Using MBD, #Annotation Feature #Create a driven dimension the behavior should be similar

  • MBD current behavior
    • if dimension is created in top view, in drawing dimension can’t be move to front view
    • If dimension is created in front view, Ø symbol is not added in prefix dimension, and in drawing dimension can’t be move to top view (or other view)

Update of this idea for Creo 4.0: problem is still the same, the creation of a driven dimension are not similar:

- on a datum plane perpendicular to cylinder axis: just select the surface and Radius dimension is proposed. By a right button click you can easily switch to diameter

- on a datum plane thru the cylinder axis, it is more complex: first select the 2 surfaces, then click on display tab and  switch from center to Min/ Max, then manually add the diameter symbol on the dimension text tab

One possible future enhancement for this might be to support easy way to change the orientation of a diameter dimension that was created in a top view (perpendicular to the cylinder axis) to a front view (along the cylinder axis).

Currently it is not possible to change the orientation between those views (using current orientation RMB command), so if that would be possible (while making sure that the diameter symbol is there) - it would be easy for the user to create such dim in either way and quickly change its orientation to the other option when needed
