Model Manager Web Client should release consumed licenses more intelligently.

Model Manager Web Client should release consumed licenses more intelligently.

(Per CS213937)

Creo Elements/Direct Model Manager Web Client doesn't free the acquired license until the Creo Elements/Direct Manager Java Services are restarted or the License Server itself

  • Model Manager Web Client doesn't free the acquired license until the Creo Elements/Direct Java Services are restarted or the License Server itself
  • Even if the user log off or closes the web browser Web Client still doesn't release the license
  • Need restart either of the Model Manager Java Services or of the License Server itself

This seems really lame. The MM web client license(s) should be released after a (configurable) timeout or if the user logs out, or according to some other more intelligent algorithm.  The current behavior is a very inefficient use of licenses and is inexcusable.

All applications using Browsers have the same issue Opposed to a classic client application, a Browser does not keep a permanent connection

to the Server - so the license cannot be released when the Browser disconnects. Instead, the Server maintains a list of connections, and it keeps

the licenses for the situation that the next request from the same client arrives within a short time.

Of course it can be understood that you would like to have more effective handling of the licenses (freeing them after a very short time),

but this has the risk that the License Server becomes flooded with license pull/free requests - resulting in poor performance for *all*

clients using Creo Elements Direct Software.

Btw. Windchill as other Web based application does *not* use a license server for good reasons.

Actually Windchill does use a license server to pull usage licenses especially when using in conjunction with Creo or we would not need to be paying support for Windchill Heavy and Light User licenses.

The "real" licenses are pulled by CREO - from the PTC (=FlexLM) License Server.
The Heavy and Light User "Licenses" are "paper licenses" - you need to have as many as you have named users.
