The title says all, I think.
The question's point is that not always you are interested in the regeneration of the constraints.
For example you may want to maintain a certain position of the mechanism/assembly while you change a dimension of a single component and you want to regenerate only that without losing the entire position.

I would like to see a "Mechanism List" where you can lock and unlock all of the individual mechanisms.  Ideally this "dialog box" or "Tree" should allow you to lock any of the mechanism connections that you do not want to move, even during regeneration, and also allow you to enter a new position dimension.

 

The drag dialog box has some of this type of functionality but does not allow you to continue working with the mechanisms locked.  However, you can save a snapshot of the position and status of the connections.  Check out this post:
