If you open an instance, it is not added to the Recent Files list when you try to Open a model. The instance should be added, or at least the generic for that instance.
I was surprised to see this, so I tried it in Creo 2 M220. File (verify the part not listed in recent files), Open>part>select instance, File, look at recent files, and I saw the (generic) part. I'm not sure what we may be doing differently.
I understand now. I'd done it via Open>GEN.PRT>Select Instance "INST", which does put it in the Recent Files, you'd done it by Open>INST<GEN>.PRT (as listed in the directory's .idx file), which does not. I could be miss my bet, but this sounds like an oversight, and I would recommend filing an SPR instead of proposing an enhancement.
I don't know what the difference is between what I did and what you did. Certainly there's local disk vs. Windchill... But I'd leave the question of which workflows do/don't work to Tech Support. I advise that the behavior you are seeing may not be as intended, and if so, reporting it as an SPR may get you the desired behavior sooner (or at least an explanation of why it is doing what it is doing).
I am speaking with them now. At first, it seemed like we were all seeing the same behavior, which is why I created the enhancement request. Now it seems like there is a discrepancy concerning the generic. So this may become an SPR.
